I’ve lived in Bristol all my life but I only started climbing around six years ago. My favourite lead in Avon Gorge is probably Sinister, which – although is only a hard severe – never fails to get my heart racing. It’s probably the step up over the overhang onto a sloping polished foothold that does it!
It was my first lead-climb in the gorge and one I repeat nearly every year in the spring after finishing work, as it’s a quick one for the evening before it gets dark.
Avon Gorge is an outstanding place to climb; to have a crag like that on your doorstep which caters for every grade of climber from diff up to high E’s is truly amazing.
